NCFE LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE IN MUSIC TECHNOLOGY

 

To all you budding DJ's and producers out there. During the summer we are running a qualification DJ course at Pure Nightclub, this is a real opportunity to gain new skills in this area which can lead to eventual employment and further education studies.

 

Best of all, the course is free, yes free to all 16 - 18 year olds!

Days: Wednesday & Fridays (11am - 5.30pm - inc 1/2 hour lunch break)

Sessions: 25

Start date: 2nd June 2010

End date: 25th August 2010

Fees: the Full Fee will be £317.65 and the concession will be £67.65.

Learners aged 16 – 18 will be free.

Course description

This course is for candidates who are interested in developing professional DJ and music mixing skills using a range of professional sound equipment and techniques. Candidates will not only learn how to DJ but also learn the production and engineering of music using audio & midi with industry standard sftware to create compositions for use as a DJ. The course also explores the types of employment available within the music industry and prepares the candidate for employment and or self-employment; a candidate will gain an awareness of business practice and employment skills. This course is taught by professional DJ's and music producers working within the industry.

Are there specific requirements for joining?

Prior knowledge in the subject would be an advantage but is not a requirement. Basic skills including literacy, numeracy and ICT skills are also an advantage, although support is available for those who require help in these areas. A home computer or access to a computer and printer is needed to complete homework for the course portfolio.

What is the aim of the course?

This course will lead to eventual progression into employment and or enable progression into further education and training. Successful candidates can take a National Diploma in Music Technology after completing this course.

  • Prepare for employment in the DJ / Music Technology industry

How will you know you are progressing and how will you be assessed?

Assessment will take place throughout the course and your tutor will provide regular feedback on your progress.

Will there be homework and if so, how much?

Yes, the aim of the course is to build a portfolio of theory and practical evidence. Much of the work is completed within a session although there is around an extra 3 hours of your own time needed per week to complete worksheets. Practising DJing, production and sequencing at home would also be an advantage.

Are there any additional costs, e.g. materials, equipment or books?

Yes, Portfolio folder, dividers, plastic sleeves. You will also need to buy a 1GB USB storage flash drive / pen for backing up files, and computer consumables like blank CDR/DVD’s are required.

  • Advanced Diploma in Music Technology
  • National Diploma and/or degree in Sound Engineering

You can progress within this subject area at the same level or above.

You may also use the skills you have gained in your everyday life including progression within employment.

For the first session, you will need to bring:

A typed 200 word personal statement explaining your reasons for joining the course, any prior knowledge of the subject, your history and experiences. Folder, dividers, sleeves and a pen / pad are also needed at the first session.

Additional information

You will need to be dedicated to this course, no time wasters. If you miss more than 2 sessions in succession it may be difficult to catch up. Candidates with learning difficulties need to be interviewed before the start of the course for assessment and further learning support.
